  i have been eying a Lotus Eclat and wondered if any readers had any experience with one of these orphan Lotus cars. Thanks Andy

  Chassis rust is the main bugbear supposedly, they're not galvanised and rot rather well. Plus of course the usual Lotus fun with dodgy electrics etc.

  For my money I'd look for an Excel instead, the late ones with Toyota running gear have galvanised chassis IIRC and are generally more robust

  Thanks Tim, the one I just missed, for $6,000, was an 81 that had a galvanized chassis. It was as nice as it looked I guess. Oh well. I have never seen an Excel for sale in the U.S.
