Hey Gang - Trying to get the Spitsix together for the local annual British car show. My car is finally running after 30 years. Paint is not good. I just tried to get insurance so that I can register it (Jacksonville, FL). Grundy gracefully declined after I sent a picture. They said that they would insure it after full restoration was complete.

I am at the point where I don't care how it looks. I just want the pleasure of driving the car and need to put on some miles sorting it out. If I wait until paint and body work are completed - It will be another 20 years and I will be dead!.

    Any other insurance thoughts?

    Thanks

    Scott

I insure my MGB with Farmers insurance, they didn't want to see it, they just said OK!

Have you contacted any of the other classic car insurers?

It's going to be a tough sell getting collector insurance with it looking like that. Don't take this wrong, please, but how much could it really be worth in that condition? $1500? $2500? You're not risking a whole lot of cash just putting liability on it for the time being.

That was my experience with my GT6. It was appraised very low when I bought it.

Of course that is all different now, but the first year I was terrified that if it was ever written off I'd lose money in the deal.

Also they may force you into the "hot rod" class because its not a stock machine.

I use Lant Insurance, but I don't know if they host US clients.

My Healey is insured by Hagerty. All they wanted was a couple of pictures, and to know how much I wanted to insure it for. I bet geico or any of the regular insurers will insure it if you only want/need liability insurance.

I chose to use normal insurance on my Spitfires. Between low value (mine was uglier), not wanting the driving restrictions, and lack of a garage, it just wasn't worth the theatrics.

Got Insured by Heacock Classic Insurance. Very nice people. I sent the cars story, lots of pictures and a little over $100. I'm insured! Had the police come out and check the VIN # so it's off to new title and registration on Monday. Less then a week to go for the show. Just bummed that I couldn't take the time to go down to the 2009 Grassroots Challange!

    Thanks - Scott

On a semi-related note, I do my classic car insurance through my usual agent. I pay the same price but get to deal with local people.
