    I saw these cars first in 1964 as the orange Team Holland cars at Mosport with Ben Pon's 904 pushing Bob Johnson's Cobra hard for 2nd place in the GT win. I was only 12 then but the memory has never left me. The 904 will always be my fav Porsche and maybe my most fav car ever..

    The "real" 904 had a 2-liter, four cylinder boxer with four cams, fed by two three-barrel Weber downdrafts. There were a few six cylinder ones built before transitioning to the 906 model, which is an entirely different car (don't know much about those).

    I know one thing about them - they move from the obscenely expensive to the don't even ask territory.

    While years of racing against bathtubs have taught me that the only good Porker is the one behind me on the track, I have always admired the 904 as the quintessential small bore race car. Nothing extra, nothing out of place, everything just so.
