first car I bought was a 62 Bug $60, next was a 65 Mustang 289 HiPerf 4bbl 4 speed $250, then I got my parents 63 Olds F85 Wagon with a 215 aluminum V8 $free, and then my favorite, that I still have, a 60 Frogeye $75. Of course it needs a litle freshening up and I've toyed with making it a challenge car.

My first car was a 1971 Datsun 510 (in 1976), paid $600 for it. Six months later ,I "upgraded" to a 1975 Ford Grenada, 250 cu.in. six, 3 speed manual on the floor. No power steering or brakes, either. What a pig, good thing I had kept the 510. I learned to drive a stick on my mother's Vauxhall Viva HA (look it up on Google). 995 CCs of thundering power!

First classic car was a 1958 MGA that I still own.

Looks bit different than it did when I bought it....

    In reply to wspohn:

Why does it look like it has a "V" engine in it?
And am I the only one who had an American first car?

Because it is an MGA Twin Cam. This was back when BMC was actually doing interesting things. A 1600 cc engine that turned 7000 RPM and put out 108 BHP (better than the Lotus Ford a few years later) and had 4 wheel disc brakes and peg drive knock off wheels.

A 1962 Ford Galaxy 2dr post sedan. 292 Y-block with the Cruise-O-Matic trans. Paid my Grandmother $150.00 when I was 15. First sports car? 1970 Datsun Fairlady Z. Bought in 1981 for $250,00. That car began a love affair with first gen. Zs that continues to this day. Cheers, Scott

Hi everyone, I'm new. Here is my first car a 1975 Spitfire. It was the only one in the parking lot at my high school in the early nineties.

Snaps are filed away, but my first car, and my first classic, was a '57 356A Normal. I learned to drive a stick on that car, since my family only had automatics. I bought it in the mid eighties for $3200 - it had some cosmetic issues along with 400K miles on it. At the time, I wasn't even a Porsche fan. I've never shaken it off though; I am knee deep in 911s.

My first car was a '57 MGA that I bought for $450 in 1966. I test drove an Austin Healey 100-6, but it was $1000, and my $1.25/hour wage wouldn't stretch that far.

My first car was a '70 Spitfire MkIII purchased in 1974. I was banned from driving it to school when I was doing some "spirited" driving in the parking lot and it spun 360 degrees on loose gravel. I parked it calmly, but a teacher saw me and sent me to the vice-principle. I think I've owned about 55 or so cars since then, mostly British with a number of Alfas, BMWs and Volvos thrown in for fun.

Mine was a Mk1 Lotus Cortina. Very sad I don't still have it. Who knew ?

Mine is a '66 Dodge Dart. Four doors, slant six, automatic. I still have it. When I originally got it, the car was a total beater painted a color I could best describe as lemon juice fog. With rust highlights. It's now repainted the original W1 White.

Unfortunately, I've gotten kind of bogged down in a turbo project that's kept it off the road the past couple years.
