  I grew up with these and it was first taste of auto ownership. The cruisers thread got me thinking about this along with another event. My neighbor still has the family car. It is a stock un-restored but still decent 1965 Chevy II just like the AMT kit that I had. Both were painted gold but I transformed my kit into a convertible. I see the car parked there from time to time and never pass by without a second or third look. It was my first AMT kit and probably my favorite.

  I still love plastic models. The AMT 3-in-1 kits were always more fun because you could build them to suit your own tastes. Later, though, I found myself buying more Tamiya and Hasegawa kits just for variety.

  I've still got some good kits in a closet until I get a desk at home again.

  Back when I was getting them, a coke cost $0.10 and AMT kits cost $3.50 and Revell were more. I was lucky to get one a year on my paper route money. Now they cost $10-15. So are much less expensive.
