    Smithsonian Magazine recently published an article about the first Indy 500, which ran one hundred years ago. Talk about classic motorsports!

    The "Warner Horograph" that was supposed to keep track of the 40 entries with "telephones, springs, hammers, miles of wire and a crew of hundreds," failed and there was still a question of who won when it was all over.

    The Indy 500 is one of those rare events that all car enthusiasts should see at least once in their lifetimes. Even if you have no interest in Indycar racing, or even racing in general. The history of the place is overwhelming. It truly is hallowed ground.
