Virginia Alpine – $12500.00
This 1967 Sunbeam Alpine Series V is one of the last 6,000 Alpines produced and has a 1725cc engine with Stromberg carbs and an all-synchro four speed. Recently obtained the car from the caretaker of the last four years, a friend of the original owner (and Ford dealer) who obtained the car at the owner’s passing in 2006.
The following work has been performed (JUN 2010): Pertronix-style electronic ignition conversion; freed up/lubricated distributor weights, springs. New rotor and distributor cap. Virginia Beach racing/exotic shop (Abacus) went through both carbs, replaced one diaphragm, needle and seat in front carb; set float levels, cleaned plugs, installed new stock-style air filters and all breather hoses; tuned up; carb balance performed – running well.
Had some brake grabbing issues, so replaced both rear wheel cylinders, all brake hoses, rear brake pipes; bled and adjusted brakes. Greased front suspension, fixed minor exhaust leak and installed new stainless clamps in front part of system.
Condition of the engine, trans, clutch, pristine gauges and dash, original pedal pads, factory plastic shift knob (with white shift pattern still clear), original (?) rubber floor mats, original carpet, very nice trunk, and vintage spare tire indicate 66k odometer reading is correct. The story goes when the caretaker put the car in the body shop for a minor touch-up, his body guy convinced him to do a complete exterior repaint, which was done in original code 86 (non-metallic British Racing Green). Paint is very good as you can see in the reflections in the attached photos. It was bare metal stripped and zinc-chromated before an additional coat of automotive primer and final paint coats. It is rubbed out properly with no application flaws, and color matches the original paint in trunk perfectly. The engine bay and trunk were not repainted as they were in great shape, although the bottom of the hood was; has a couple minor paint chips (less than 1/2″) where panels touched before alignment, etc.
This car has never been in snow or salt and always garaged. It has a new soft top installed; also has an original-to-the-car tonneau cover that appears almost new with a couple patches. Bumpers are serviceable (rear bumper now a good rechrome, but needs one end’s edge polished down [plating “flash” 1/8” present]). Front bumper is nice, but will need replating/replacing eventually.
Comes with hard-to-find original factory steel hardtop in gloss black, which can use new Plexiglas side windows (have replaced the rear window); headliner is in decent repairable shape (a couple clean tears at rear). Previous registration docs are dated 2002, so assume the original owner didn’t re-register the vehicle in his last few years. It was run on dealer plates for the four years before my purchase, and only covered 250 miles in that time. I have put on 1,000 miles since the tune, etc. A color copy of the original title and bill of sale were made before it was transferred to me; the caretaker never transferred it to his name so the facsimile copy provided shows me as the second owner.
Comes with original service book, owner’s manual, and jack, along with some factory Alpine/Tiger brochures and 10+ year-old club newsletters. Cheap aftermarket radio installed under the dash, which can be easily removed. Have two rear speakers in area behind seats that appear to date to when the car was new.
Still needs: · Leaky sump gasket replaced; · Grille center badge emblem; · Horns, turn signals fixed (new switch required); · Minor rubber parts, etc.
This is a clean looking and ready to drive Alpine that has the right colors, condition, and options.
